Don't buy a TimeShare...

It is the time of year.. they start calling and telling you, you won something.

Then you get this free trip, vacation, TV or some other thing if you come and listen to them give a presentation..

After two hours of presentation you move to the HOT SEAT.

Personal one on one with a Sales rep.

The tell you all the benefits of buying some time share.. there are all kinds.

The money they charge is well over what it would cost you to just go on Vacation.

$250 dollars a month for a very long time at 12-21% interest.

Then annual dues and quarterly fees....

Price over $4000 a year.. and you still have to pay to get to the destination, if they have a week free for you to go.

Most people can go on a vacation for less than $4000.

If you think you are getting a good deal, you aren't..

The proof that should convince anyone is.. take a look at all the time share wholesalers on the Internet. These are people trying to get out of the contract that they signed. They sell all kinds of timeshares steep discounts. Pennies on the dollar.

Young people get suckered into these timeshares, then pay and pay and never make much of a dent in the principal because of all the tricks they play with the payments. Raising interests, late fees, raising the maintenance fees and other ripoff techniques.

Most Timeshare companies have been investigated for fraud. Lies they tell during the High pressured sales pitch.

Many people convince themselves it is a good deal and buy into it only to find out that they miss one payment and they can't use the time share at all until all the fees, penalties and other conditions have been met.

It will drain your resources and eat at your life for as long as you have it. They will tell you can sell it at any time.. but that is not true. You have to have it all paid and in good standing with them before you can sell it.

If you lose your job, or can't make the payment for some reason. You are stuck with it and you can't use it, sell it, trade it or get out from it. And you can't use it at all even if you paid on it for years and have thousands of credits.

Most timeshare companies are betting that you will never or rarely use the timeshare that is why they can over sell the time share properties. This means they sell the same room for way over 52 weeks every year.

You have to schedule your room months in advance so they can see if it is going to be available. Many times it is not if it is a popular place. A lot of people change out to a cheaper place just to go on vacation and they could have just paid either place in cash and got the room they wanted at the time they wanted for less than the price of the timeshare per year.

Don't be fool by these places, it is a rip off.

Search google, find the discount places, see what the other people are trying to selling their timeshares at .. pennies on the dollar just to get out of it.

-Radman..

Date: 5/10/2008 5:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    My ex husband and I got caught up in a time share when we were very young (I was 17 and he was 20). Back then, we thought it was the most awesome thing ever. You're right...it's SOOO not worth it. We only actually used it 1 time, but ended up paying for it for 10 years. He may still be paying on it. I'm not sure. We paid $375.00 a month and the one and only time we used it, we still had to pay $500.00 extra (not counting the monthly payment) just to have it for a weekend. Also, the only time they let us stay was in the winter. It wasn't even a "hot" vacation destination. It was in a small town in Texas several hundred miles from where we live. It was horrible. I wouldn't fall for such a thing now, but back then I believed everything the salesman told us. We did get a free umbrella and a fishing pole out of the deal. LMAO
Date: 5/10/2008 5:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    lol the timeshare South Park was awesome, totally irrelevent to the post but had to say it
Date: 5/10/2008 5:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 62146    I was thinking the same as base, partly cause I am a south park nut!! lol.
Date: 5/10/2008 5:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 62849    LOL I had my wedding + honeymoon at a resort for around 5k. I say no to time shares.. I can be treated like a princess for half the price if I go to an all-inclusive once a year!!
Date: 5/10/2008 5:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    I get those things all the time. They always tell me about this 40k, or the Porsche I won, and all I have to do is listen to their presentation...then they send you to the closer to arrange the time you can be there, and he asks for the amount of money you make. If you don't make at least 40k a year, they tell you you don't qualify. The one that does this is Silver Leaf resorts.
Date: 5/10/2008 5:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301    ...I'd get calls at work telling me that my name had been drawn and I was the winner of a Caribbean vacation. This happened on an average of twice a month. I haven't entered in a draw for years so if they've got my name, it's from something ancient. I hang up as soon as the recording begins.
Date: 5/10/2008 6:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 62579    Thanks so much for posting this. I have always wondered if it was a good idea or not.
Date: 5/10/2008 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 28989    I've learned a real easy method for shutting up telemarketers (if they catch me before I hang up): I say, "I'm unemployed." It's amazing, but they'll usually hang up without another word, lol.
Date: 5/10/2008 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 21839    my neighbors got a free disney trip out of it, the only catch is, its so hard to get away from the sales man once you get in there.. another couple I know said they felt like the were kidnapped & would not get out unless they said yes... it is not worth it.. good advise Radman!
Date: 5/10/2008 8:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    I remember when we were holidaying interstate, my son, then only 10 years old, won an instant prize at a 'stand' in a shopping plaza. He was sooooo excited, thinking he had won a holiday for his family. Poor kid, we tried to explain that it was actually a rip off. I thought that was really bad, suckering in kids.
Date: 5/10/2008 9:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    I won't ty for this!
Date: 5/10/2008 9:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 48250    I remember those., and would never be interested either...so sad that, these companies actually get away with cheating people...Thanks for the informative post Radman *Hugs*....T/C
Date: 5/10/2008 10:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    It's sad that people get sucked into these things, because to me, it's so obvious that they're scams.
Date: 5/10/2008 11:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 52746    We were warned off these many years ago when we were told about people being accosted on the beach and 'invited' to go to a presentation. I can't belive it still goes on and people haven't wisened up yet.
Date: 5/11/2008 12:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 61847    Thanks for the info!! *hugs*

Date: 5/11/2008 10:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    Good Info Raddy.
Date: 5/11/2008 12:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    You're absolutely right! My 2 friends and I went to Vegas a few months back, and literally the moment we stepped into our hotel we were being hit up to go to one of the presentations. My friend signed us up, because we had 3 hours to kill until we could get into our room. Well, that 3 hours turned into over 5, and they got talked into buying. They thought about it over the weekend and decided against it. Their contract said they had like 4 or 5 days to back out, so they were able to cancel. Still, it is SUCH a forced thing. Shady, shady, SHADY!
Date: 5/11/2008 12:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 55297    My grandpa and grandma bought a timeshare YEARS ago... Like 30. Anyways, now all we pay is $250/year and get two weeks every year to go on a vacation anywhere we want... There are condos all over the USA and Abroad. :) So some are legitimate, you just have to look.
Date: 5/11/2008 1:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 55297    Oh, and we only have to pay for the way we get to our destination and our food, otherwise, we stay in 4 or 5 star resorts for the $250 we pay yearly, :)
Date: 5/11/2008 4:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 18928    Good advice.
Date: 5/11/2008 7:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 63194    I thought it was one of those things that just goes without saying... heh.
Date: 5/11/2008 8:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I would never buy one but I have benifited from those who have. I got a great week in a Willamsburg, Va condo and another week in Kissimmee, Fl condo that was awesome for only 50.00.
Date: 5/12/2008 8:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 17014    Luckily I was born into a family that owns their own cabin- a real cabin, not the houses that people buy and then call them cabins. We just finally got a flushing toilet and a shower a couple years ago. Before that, all the water was pumped up from the lake and then filtered back through the ground and if you wanted a shower, you went and jumped in the lake. Oh and to flush the toilet before, you had to use a bucket of water. lol. I love real cabins. So therefore I will never need an overpriced timeshare. I can go to my cabin on a whim and whenever I want. And it costs practically nothing! Ha! (Don't mean to brag, but who needs a resort or timeshare crowded by a bunch of other people when all you want is peace and quiet?)
