My ex husband and I got caught up in a time share when we were very young (I was 17 and he was 20). Back then, we thought it was the most awesome thing ever. You're right...it's SOOO not worth it. We only actually used it 1 time, but ended up paying for it for 10 years. He may still be paying on it. I'm not sure. We paid $375.00 a month and the one and only time we used it, we still had to pay $500.00 extra (not counting the monthly payment) just to have it for a weekend. Also, the only time they let us stay was in the winter. It wasn't even a "hot" vacation destination. It was in a small town in Texas several hundred miles from where we live. It was horrible. I wouldn't fall for such a thing now, but back then I believed everything the salesman told us. We did get a free umbrella and a fishing pole out of the deal. LMAO ![]() |

LOL I had my wedding + honeymoon at a resort for around 5k. I say no to time shares.. I can be treated like a princess for half the price if I go to an all-inclusive once a year!! ![]() |

I get those things all the time. They always tell me about this 40k, or the Porsche I won, and all I have to do is listen to their presentation...then they send you to the closer to arrange the time you can be there, and he asks for the amount of money you make. If you don't make at least 40k a year, they tell you you don't qualify. The one that does this is Silver Leaf resorts. ![]() |

...I'd get calls at work telling me that my name had been drawn and I was the winner of a Caribbean vacation. This happened on an average of twice a month. I haven't entered in a draw for years so if they've got my name, it's from something ancient. I hang up as soon as the recording begins. ![]() |

I've learned a real easy method for shutting up telemarketers (if they catch me before I hang up): I say, "I'm unemployed." It's amazing, but they'll usually hang up without another word, lol. ![]() |

I remember when we were holidaying interstate, my son, then only 10 years old, won an instant prize at a 'stand' in a shopping plaza. He was sooooo excited, thinking he had won a holiday for his family. Poor kid, we tried to explain that it was actually a rip off. I thought that was really bad, suckering in kids. ![]() |

It's sad that people get sucked into these things, because to me, it's so obvious that they're scams. ![]() |

You're absolutely right! My 2 friends and I went to Vegas a few months back, and literally the moment we stepped into our hotel we were being hit up to go to one of the presentations. My friend signed us up, because we had 3 hours to kill until we could get into our room. Well, that 3 hours turned into over 5, and they got talked into buying. They thought about it over the weekend and decided against it. Their contract said they had like 4 or 5 days to back out, so they were able to cancel. Still, it is SUCH a forced thing. Shady, shady, SHADY! ![]() |

My grandpa and grandma bought a timeshare YEARS ago... Like 30. Anyways, now all we pay is $250/year and get two weeks every year to go on a vacation anywhere we want... There are condos all over the USA and Abroad. :) So some are legitimate, you just have to look. ![]() |

Oh, and we only have to pay for the way we get to our destination and our food, otherwise, we stay in 4 or 5 star resorts for the $250 we pay yearly, :) ![]() |

Luckily I was born into a family that owns their own cabin- a real cabin, not the houses that people buy and then call them cabins. We just finally got a flushing toilet and a shower a couple years ago. Before that, all the water was pumped up from the lake and then filtered back through the ground and if you wanted a shower, you went and jumped in the lake. Oh and to flush the toilet before, you had to use a bucket of water. lol. I love real cabins. So therefore I will never need an overpriced timeshare. I can go to my cabin on a whim and whenever I want. And it costs practically nothing! Ha! (Don't mean to brag, but who needs a resort or timeshare crowded by a bunch of other people when all you want is peace and quiet?) ![]() |
