Strange Happenings When My Mom Crossed Over...

My Mom was in hospital in Oxnard, CA due to complications of radiation treatment for Lymphoma Cancer. My birthday was Monday May 19th but I couldn't visit her until Tuesday the 20th, she let me know she would be released Thursday the 22nd. She received a blood transfusion that caused infection and she died May 21st without ever coming home. The day started with my cousin Sandy calling me at 8am to tell me that the entire family had to be at the hospital because they didn't think my Mom would make it through the day. In Southern California it was a beautiful sunny day. I got to the hospital and talked with my Mom for a bit then I went to call my sister and one of my brother's, then I called Red Cross to contact our eldest brother which was overseas. I really didn't believe my Mom was dying. By noon she was getting starry eyed and looking nervous, by 1pm she was short of breath. At this point I noticed that the sunny beautiful day was leaving us. It started getting very windy, by 2pm she slipped into a coma, now it was getting dark and cloudy outside, by the time of her passing around 3pm it was stormy, thunder, and heavy rain outside, the weather can be verified through archives. The weather stayed that way through the afternoon and night. I felt it was my Mom very angry that the hospital didn't give her proper care. Her doctor even recognized that the cancer didn't kill her, but he wouldn't say anything against the hospital. We got to my home that night and I was in total shock, my Mom meant everything to me, I was 31 years old and not ready to lose her. As I am a very private person, my home is always totally sealed up when I'm not there, yet when we entered the home there was a strange cat there. My kids and the neighborhood kids had never seen the cat before. It wasn't one of our neighborhood cats because we know them all. So we kicked it out before leaving to go to my parents home for the evening. When we got back to our own home around midnight, the cat was in the house again! Keep in mind there were never any windows or doors open for this cat to be able to just enter the house, yet both times the cat was sitting on my Victorian Couch. This time I took it as a sign and told my husband to leave the cat in the house. We were in and out for the next several days due to the funeral and all but everytime I was home that cat would only sit with me in my lap, it stuck to me like glue. Really strange, but again I felt it was somehow my Mom comforting me. When I returned to work the next week, I came home and the cat was no where to be found, my husband said he had kicked it out for messing in the living room. So I argued with him as to his motives. The cat disappeared like it never existed. None of the neighborhood had ever seen the cat before or after the incident. But we all know how cats are, they don't just disappear, especially from the hand that feeds them. I think my Mom didn't want to stir problems in my home because my husband made it obvious he hated cats.

How it changed my life:

It comforted me on the darkest day of my life. Call it false faith or whatever you like, either way, it comforted me to feel that my Mom was somehow tending to my mourning.

Date: 9/23/1999 2:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 177    I really liked your story. I also found it very believable, as I have read and heard of many enexplicable and odd happenings that either follow of precede the death of a loved one. Please read my story "Grandfather's heart".
Date: 10/19/1999 12:47:00 PM    I'm so sorry for your Mom's death. It sounds like you may have a law suit against the hospital. It won't bring back you Mom, but it may give you a little security.
Date: 11/22/1999 10:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 2140    My mother passed away as well in 1989 when I was 18.
She died of breast cancer around New Years. Just keep the faith that some day you'll be reunited in heaven as do I with my mother. God Bless!
