Would you trade NAMING RIGHTS to your child? ...GreenEyedFroggy

Would you give up the right to name your child for  $100 GAS CARD?

I just don't see how I could do something like that and I don't know of anyone that would do that either.

Someone would really have to be desperate.

I heard about this on the radio this morning:

OK, so this tip isn’t going to save you a whole lot of gas, but it certainly helped out Florida resident David Partin, who traded the naming rights for his unborn son to two local radio disc jockeys in exchange for $100 worth of free gas.

Hosts Richard Dixon and J. Willoughby held a contest to see who could offer the most interesting item to trade for the gas card. Partin won, and the hosts bequeathed the name "Dixon and Willoughby Partin" on the poor kid. The only stipulation is that Partin doesn't get the gas card until Dixon and Willoughby actually see the name on the birth certificate.

We’re interested to know how the mother feels about this.

When they see proof of the legal name on the child's birth certificate then the guy gets the gas card.

Could any one of you ever consider doing something like this...giving up the once in a life-time opportunity to name your child once it's born?

I couldn't.

Date: 7/23/2008 4:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 21903    maybe a million dollar gas card (depending on the name)...but its pretty doubtful I'd even BE that trusting of 2 strangers not to name my kid something like Green Lamp Snicklebobble, ya know? I don't think I'd do it either...lol, I said 'think'! Let me rephrase: I KNOW I wouldn't. haha, thanks for sharing the story!
Date: 7/23/2008 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 13636    I filled my car up for 65 bucks the other day. What's 100 bucks? My kid would probably prefer some other person to have named her. At least then she would've had a good excuse to why she has a weird name. :p
Date: 7/23/2008 4:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 23075    NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Date: 7/23/2008 4:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62881    He will be named AFTER the disc jockeys.
Date: 7/23/2008 4:48:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 62881    Dixon Willoughby Partin will be the child's first 3 names.
Date: 7/23/2008 5:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I wouldn't for a gas card, but I MIGHT for their college tuition paid. Even then, I don't think I could do it.
Date: 7/23/2008 5:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 63026    Lol I'll make this offer to my wife...I'll give her $250 for shopping to let me name the kids.
Date: 7/23/2008 5:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 63026    $250 for every kid we have :)

Date: 7/23/2008 7:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 63743    Now, this is ridiculous! Who would do that? People are getting worst by the day....
Date: 7/23/2008 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Hey, it's Florida. I heard this on the News the other day. I saw an interview with the parents-to-be, and frankly, neither one could work for NASA.
Date: 7/23/2008 7:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    ..and the Mom was like...."I said, uhhh...o.k." & giggled. >.<
Date: 7/23/2008 7:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Of course, it's better than naming their child after their favorate NASCAR driver, or cashier at Wal-Mart.
Date: 7/23/2008 9:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    For $100 gas card? HA, no. It would have to be a LOT more than a hundred bucks, that's for sure.
Date: 7/24/2008 12:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 13109    I would have kicked his butt.... poor kid! Crazzzzyyy! Love,

Date: 7/24/2008 12:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 63241    People do the strangest things for money! Poor child!
Date: 7/25/2008 7:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 62171    I heard about this and thought "Poor child"... but thats not all... what about parents that give kids ridiculous names without getting anything in return like this article... WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A young girl so embarrassed by being called "Talula Does the Hula from Hawaii" has won a new name from a family court judge in New Zealand. Judge Rob Murfitt, ruling from the city of New Plymouth on New Zealand's North Island, made the youngster a ward of court so that she could change the name that she hates. SERIOUSLY, WHAT ARE THESE PARENTS ON????
Date: 8/2/2008 4:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    My brother's ex step-son named his daughter Galaxy Star. Poor kid...
Date: 8/16/2008 7:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 61013    I wouldn't give up my right to name my baby for a million dollars. The gas card would be nice to have but in the end all thats going to happen with the gas card is it'll be all gone in like a week but the baby should be around for like eighteen years [or in your life for that long]. Poor baby is right :)
