The First Snowflake

I saw the first snowflake
Come tumbling to the ground.
It floated all alone,
Like fluffy eiderdown.

My eyes did not believe.
I said, “it can’t be so.
For who has ever seen
A single flake of snow?"

I stayed at my window
And waited patiently
To see if my own eyes
Were playing tricks on me

I searched and searched the sky;
There surely must be some
Snowflakes to gently follow,
So Santa’s sleigh could come.

When I finally gave up
And went to play a game,
As soon as I had turned—
A blizzard quickly came.
