As younger kids we always got 8 or 10 small gifts, then as we got older we got one big one and a few smaller ones. This has continued on to this day, while us kids are 25, 27 and 29...I told my parents this year that I didn't want or need anything 'big'..just being able to go home for christmas is just fine with me.. but i don't think they listened..:S ![]() |

It really all depends. When, years are good I don't do a present count as one gift might cost more than another I typically have a set limit that I spend on each child. I only have two kids though. When, it comes to the rest of family like brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and what not. Instead, of gifts we have a chinese Christmas. Everyone brings two gifts to the Christmas gathering. They can be two gifts of any thing lol. Then, we put the number of gifts in a hat say there are 30 gifts and 15 of us playing that's two gifts each that we get to open. The only bad thing is it can go for hours because, we play the three times taken then, dead rule lol. It's fun for the kids to watch the ones that are 14 and up play and they usually, can't wait to be fourteen lol. This year we probably won't do it as the budget just isn't there for much of anything. So, even their Christmas gift budget looks a little glum right now. My children though have been taught it's not about what you get rather than what you give. ![]() |

i used to get about 8-10 gifts from the parents. then of course there were grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and uncles.......so we got more than enough! as we got older and wanted more expensive things the ammount of presents dropped. my mom always made sure my brother and i had the same number of gifts to open even if they didn't spend the same. you can't spend the exact same on two kids when they are boy/girl and almost 6 years in age. sometimes i wanted the more costly item and sometimes it was my brother. now...at 44 and 38 we would rather have one gift. we both have too much stuff but we can't get that through our mom's head!! ![]() |

I don't remember ever doing a certain number of gifts, only making sure they had the same number of gifts so when they opened and took turns all was fair. I do the same with my grandkids. ![]() |

My mom does it this way, she spends $250 on each of us 3 girls and sometimes on gets more than the other but the value is the same. Im doing it with my kids this year, $200 for each of the kids, my son has gotten more than my daughter, but the value is the same... ![]() |

I'd rather have one really important present, something that meant a lot to me. I got a lot of stuff last year, but I would have been happy with just the dictionary of etymology that I got...I know I'm a nerd, lol. This year, I just want a german language program for my iPod. I'm not greedy, lol. ![]() |

In most cases, 8 little things would be more exciting...but if I could get a certain kind of ring from a certain someone, I'd rather have the one "big" gift! (sadly, I know its not coming this year...I was just sayin...) ![]() |
