The Walk

My great-grandmother is luckily still alive. A few years ago, I asked her what her parents were like, thats when she told me. Her father's name was Archie, and her mother's was Anna. They were popular names at the time, around the 1920s. Every night, Archie and Anna would take a walk around a park a few blocks from their house. 'Let's take our walk, Anne', Archie would say. My great-grandmother was only about 9 or 10 at the time. Archie died a few weeks later of a heart problem. Anna was heartbroken. After the funeral and everything else died down, Anna began having these strange dreams. Every night, she dreampt of Archie saying: 'Let's take our walk, Anne'. In the dream, the first time he said it, he was outback of the house, outside the fence. The second night, he said the same thing, but this time, he was inside the fence. She had this dream for about a week straight, until she had the dream and he said it at the back door. Every time he wanted to walk, she would refuse by saying: 'Not now Archie, I'm tired'. The next night, Anna died in her sleep. I think this is what happened: In the dream, 'taking the walk', meant coming with him (dying). She must've went with him this time, he must've entered the house. This story has stuck with me all my life.

How it changed my life:

I look at the pictures of my great-great grandparents, and remember the story
