The following is an account of what happened to my sister and me in the summer of '86, when she was 19 and I was 14.We lived with my mother and her boyfriend in a small two-room apartment, one of twelve in a drug-infested apartment building in Fall River, Mass. My sis and I shared the bedroom, while my mother and her boyfriend slept in the living room/kitchen.
Let me start by saying that under no circumstances would my sis or I ever leave the apartment at night. The hallways were without lights, not to mention the fact that you never knew what was behind the door. One night-actually morning-around midnight, I found that I was having trouble sleeping. I would be jolted violently out of sleep. This was happening every minute on the minute. I know because I would check the clock and it would be turning at that very moment.
After so many times of this, I decided to go to the bathroom. I put the light on and sat on the toilet, wondering why I was so jumpy. I then got back into the bed I shared with my sis, and tried to sleep again. It started to happen over and over again. After a while, I went to the sink in the living room/kitchen to grab a drink of water and once again returned to bed. Sure enough, the jolting kept happening. Here's where it really gets strange.
I got out of bed, walked into the other room where my mom and her boyfriend were sleeping, and without a second thought, unlocked and opened the door to the apartment. I then walked the length of the long hallway past the other apartments to the entry window and leaned out to get some air. As I did, I felt like someone or thing was pulling me out the window. The next thing I can remember is waking up in my own bed in the morning.
I told my sister something strange had happened the night before, not going into every detail, basically telling her about my trouble sleeping. She looked at me strangely and said she too had a weird experience, I thought I was going crazy when she told me the following.
She started to get jolted out of sleep around midnight. She tried to remedy the problem by trying to get oriented by the light in the bathroom, getting a drink of water, and strangely, getting some air at the entry window. She said as she was leaning out the window, she saw me walking across the street I have a basic theory of my own of what may have happened, but I am really interested in what other people think.
