James Dean's death car

I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to conduct a serious search for James Dean's death car. It was a 1955 Porsche Spyder. It supposedly had was "cursed" and most people having dealings with it met with misfortunes (Sort of like a "Hope Diamond" on wheels, huh?!). It disappeared from public sight in 1958 after being last displayed in Florida. Hollywood car customizer George Barris is the person most responsible for perpetuating the myth of Dean's car. Barris was directly involved with the car before the crash, and was the person responsible for selling off several of the car's components after the crash. If anyone could actually locate the car it would be considered by many to be a major "find", as the car would be of quite significant value. It has been speculated by many that the Dean death car , if found, would be one of the most valuable automotive finds in history. In all of my years of collecting and studying "Deanabilia" I have read much about the Spyder and although the car has always been described as "much sought after" I have never discovered any reports or evidence that any real true search has ever been conducted as to the car's whereabouts. If there are any real dyed-in-the-wool treasure hunters still left out there, the discovery of this car would definetely be worth their time in finding it. If anyone seeks further info, please contact me, as I would be thrilled to assist in any way I can to the Porsche's recovery. Here's a link for a little info pertaining to the

Date: 7/24/2001 10:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 41136    I took driver's ed in high school in 1958. At the beginning of the course, we had to watch a slide show called "Death on the Highway." Not only did we have to look at James Dean's car, but we had to view several shots of James Dean's body. Not a pretty sight! I get a quarterly newsletter from the Fairmount Museum. A chunk of the car was turned over to the museum (according to the last issue). Apparently the car was at a garage after the accident and someone broke off a chunk of it. The person had it all these years and turned it into the museum. Tests were run on the piece to prove that it was part of the car. *Deaner1
