My dad used to take our family to Lykes Brother's in Palmdale on the northern edge of lake Oceechobee for weekends of camping and hunting trips. Most of the time it was usually my mom and dad, my brother and myself. I loved it there beacuse of the hundreds of acres of wildlife and wilderness. All the mysterious things we would find as kids wondering through the marshes, swamps, creeks and grassfields. The habitat which layed on Fisheating creek was full of eagles, hawks, wild hogs, reptiles, raccoons, turkeys and deer. Lots to see and explore for a kid and even an adult. When I was about 12 or 13 I remember camping out one weekend and our parents letting my little brother and I do our usual exploring. We were out one morning romping about trying to find frogs and lizards and came upon a large grassfield. It was late in the summer and Florida has the rainy seasons that feeds the wild grasses until they grow over your head. In these are where a lot of creatures like to hide out some times. So my brother and I go strolling through like kids will do half conscious sometimes and missing the real important stuff. We were in the grassfield about a couple hundred yards and came up on a huge clearing. Now grassfields will open up sometimes into clearings, but something was different here and we noticed it right off. This clearing was a perfectly round opening, almost exact and huge about a hundred yards across. As we looked around in it I noticed that the grass in the clearing was dried out looking. Like a fire had been there. But there was no abvious ashes or burnt cinders left like when there was fires in these areas. It was like the life was pulled out of the grass and weeds. And why so perfectly round? I remember stepping it off to see how far across it was and at the far edge I found this turtle shell all charcoal burnt like a fire was there. No other evidence of a fire existed on the clearing anywhere. I dropped the turtle shell and took my brother and ran back to tell my parents. We eventually found our way back to the clearing with our parents. I remember showing my dad the turtle shell and him scratching his head and walking around looking. He never said what he was thinking. Thirty some years have passed since than. I live away from my brother and my parents now. On occasion we'll call and say how's it going and the usual. We never speak of this anymore. I'm not one to believe in little green men and that sort of thing, but to this day I still wonder what caused this. How it changed my life: This didn't change my life. But it did add to some of many unexplained things I've been able to experience. I'm glad to have been able to see this with my family.
