My father was born George Russell Holmes on September 27, 1928, in Camden, NJ. Believed to have been orphaned at two years old, he was raised by foster parents who planned on adopting him. The foster father died and the foster mother decided she couldn't handle him anymore. And so, at the age of about twelve, he was out on his own, working farm to farm. About five years ago, he started searching for any relatives he might have. When he received his birth certificate, he discovered that his father's name was John K. Holmes, who was 28 at the time of his birth, and his mother was Grace Burton, who was 25. It also stated that Grace already had one other child at the time of my father's birth. Shortly thereafter, my father received a letter from the state of New Jersey saying that his father was living in Holbrook, Arizona, with my father's three other siblings. My father died recently, never having discovered his lineage. He was told by his foster parents that hi! s grandmother was a full blooded American Indian. We have no information on John K. Holmes except what was on the birth certificate, including that he was born in Germany. Grace's parents were Albert and Ida Mae Barton (my dad's birth certificate said Grace Burton--probably a misprint). I would really like to meet any of my father's family and discover why he was given up for adoption. If any of this sounds familiar, please e-mail me at EMFU@AOL.com.
